The Village des Bories in Provence
A fabulous testimony to popular ancestral know-how. Also called the "Black Village", it was inhabited up until the 19th century. It is listed as a Historic Monument since 1977.

The origin of the Bories of Provence goes back to the Ligurians who populated the region several centuries before Christ. The Bories of Provence, in the Luberon, which are commonly referred to as "Gallic cabins", are dry stone constructions, built according to the principle of the corbel arch.

Construction of this traditional habitation using stones found on the spot continued up until the last century. The Village des Bories, in Provence, restored between 1969 and 1976, appears to us just as it stood when its last inhabitants abandoned it in the beginning of the 19th century.
